Stainless steel is unlike standard steel because of the different variations of chemical elements used during production. This process can be altered at varying degrees to produce different grades, these are assigned an AISI number to identify the grade, for example AISI 316.
The main benefits of stainless steel is its high corrosion resistance in outdoor and wet environments. Stainless rope is typically used in marine environments and other outdoor constructions for this reason. It will not rust or stain and is easy to clean, for this reason it can often be found in the food industry.
A further key feature of stainless steel rope is its look. With a smooth and slightly shiny surface this type of rope is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and because of this it is often used for more decorative purposes. Balustrades and barriers are a typical use in this way. For example along old castle ramparts with crumbling walls to keep the public safe whilst climbing them.
We offer 3 key types of stainless steel rope constructions; 1x19, 7x7, 7x19and 6x36, all in a range of diameters varying slightly between constructions. They also offer varying degrees of flexibility so speak to our team to ensure you get the right rope for your task. Find out more in the specifications tab.
A 1 x 19 construction is available in diameters from 1mm up to 12mm. Its properties include excellent breaking load strength and low stretch.
Commonly used in the marine industry for rigging and mast stays and in architectural design for stairways, balustrading and barriers.
This stainless rope with a 7 x 7 construction and is readily available in diameters from 3mm up to 12mm. Its more flexible than the 1x19 but not as much as the 7x19. Ideal for control cables, guard rails and in the marine and sewage industries.
The 1x19 rope comes in diameters from 1mm up to 26mm and its low stretch properties make it suitable for many marine and architectural orientated tasks, as well as control cabling, guard rails, running rigging, slinging applications, davit ropes and general engineering applications.
The 6x36 construction comes with two options – an fibre core or a wire core. Available in diameters ranging from 6mm up to a huge 52mm. Commonly used in marine and other wet environments and has great flexibility.
